Fruto da família Anacardiaceae, da espécie Anacardium occidentale L.
Nota 2: Ele apresenta duas partes bem diferenciadas. A primeira é o pseudofruto, comestível ao natural, macia, carnosa, rica em suco, colorida de amarelo-palha, esverdeada, amarelo ou vermelho-forte, muito delicada e de conservação limitada. A segunda é o fruto propriamente dito, ou seja, a castanha que é dura, coriácea, reniforme, não comestível ao natural, mas passível de conservação prolongada, industrializável e valiosa, porque tem comércio internacional.

Note 2: It has two different parts: the first one is the pseudofruit that is edible in natura, soft, fleshy, juicy, light yellow, greenish, yellow or llively red colors, very delicate so of short life shelf. The second one is the fruit itself, that is the nut, it is hard, coriaceous, reniform, not edible in natura but it has a long shelf life when indusrtrialized and high economical value to exportation.
