Árvore da família Leguminosae-Caesalpinioideae, da espécie Cassia ferruginea Schrad.
Nota 1 e 2: Ela é encontrada desde o Ceará até o Paraná e Minas Gerais. Ela é corpulenta, muito ramosa, podendo atingir até 10 m de altura. A casca é cinzento-clara com manchas pardacentas, um pouco rugosa, fendida e com aréolas decíduas. O líber é amarelo; as folhas são longopecioladas (com pecíolos pubescentes e canaliculados), paripenadas, compostas de 10-30 folíolos curtopeciolados, linear oblongos, membranosos, verde-escuros e peninervados. As flores possuem coloração amarelo-ouro e corola irregular, são aromáticas e dispostas em racimos pêndulos muito vistosos, de 30 cm. O fruto é uma vagem cilíndrica, lisa e polisperma, com até 65 cm de comprimento, inteiramente dividida por inúmeras laminas transversais; as sementes são muito pequenas, envolvidas em polpa verde. A árvore fornece madeira moderadamente pesada, de cerne pardo-claro, uniforme, porosa, tecido frouxo e fibras grossas poucos resistentes à umidade, próprias para vigas, caixilhos, rodapés, obras internas, carpintaria e construções. Seu peso especifico é 0,5 g/cm³. A casca é de superior qualidade para curtume contendo 10 % de tanino. A planta é heliófita e é útil para plantios em reflorestamentos heterogêneos de área degradadas de preservação permanente.

Note 1 and 2: It is found from the state of Ceará until the state of Paraná and Minas Gerais. It is corpulent, very branchy and it may reach up to 10m of height. The bark has a light-grey colouration, with some brown stains; it is slightly rough, fissured and equipped with deciduous areolas. The phloem is yellow; the leaves, which have long, pubescent and canaliculated petioles are paripinnate, composed by 10-30 linear, oblong, membranous, dark-green, peninerved and shortpetiolate leaflets. The flowers have a gold-yellow colouration and an irregular corolla, they are aromatic and disposed in pendulum-shaped racemes, which are very showy and have 30 cm. The fruit is a cylindrical pod, smooth and with multiple seeds, reaching up to 65 cm of length, it is wholly divided by numerous transversal laminas, the seeds are very small and are surrounded by a green pulp. The tree provides a moderately heavy wood, with a light brown heartwood, uniform, porous, with a floppy tissue and thick fibres, wich are not very resistant to humidity; the wood is suitable for beams, frames, footers, interior works, carpentry and building activities. It is specific weight is 0.5 g/cm³. The bark has an upper quality for tannery activities because it has 10 % of tannin. The plant is helyophitic and useful in the heterogeneous reforestation of degraded areas of permanent preservation.
