Árvore da família Lauraceae, da espécie Nectandra mollis Nees. Nota 1 e 2: Ela ocorre desde a Guiana ao Paraná, e também em Minas Gerais e Mato Grosso. Ela atinge até 12 m de altura, possui um caule nem sempre reto; casca lisa com manchas acinzentadas e escuras, ramos densamente revestidos de pelos macios e ruivos, folhas esparsas, alternas, pecioladas, elípticas, atenuado-acuminadas no ápice, recurvadas na base e nas margens, até 20 cm de comprimento x 10 de largura, coriáceas, glabras na pagina superior e reticuladas na inferior; flores aromáticas, quase brancas, cotonosas, reunidas em cimeiras de capituliformes; fruto baga ovoide, amarela, com cúpula hemisférica. Fornece madeira amarelo-pardacenta com grandes manchas escuras, acetinada, tecido compacto e firme, muito resistente, própria para construção naval e civil e marcenaria de luxo. A casca fresca libera um óleo essencial, também contido nas folhas, que é relativamente aromático, carminativo, diurético e emenagogo.
A tree of the family Lauraceae, of the species Nectandra mollis Nees. Note 1 and 2: It occurs from Guyana to the state of Paraná, and in the states of Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso. It reaches up to 12 m of height. Its stam is not always straight. The bark is smooth and has greyish and dark stains; the branches are densely coated with red and soft hair. The leaves are scattered, alternate, petiolated, elliptic, and attenuated-acuminate in the apex, recurved in the basis and in the edges, reaching up to 20 cm of length and 10 cm of width, they are also coriaceous, glabrous in the top surface and reticulated in the bottom one. The flowers are aromatic, almost white, cottony, gathered in capituliform summits; the fruit is a yellow and ovoid berry, which has an hemifesric cupule. The tree provides a brown-yellow, satiny and resistent wood, which has a compact and steady tissue. It is used in shipbuilding and in luxury carpentry works. The fresh bark releases an essencial oil (also contained in the leaves), which is relatively aromatic, carminative, diuretic and emmenagogue.
