Árvore da família Lauraceae, da espécie Cinnamomum zeylanium Breyn.
Nota 1 e 2: Ela é originária do Sri Lanka e é atualmente cultivada nos eatados do Pará, Bahia e Rio de Janeiro. Ela atinge até 9 m de altura e 40 cm de diâmetro; casca espessa, pálida e glabra; folhas simples, opostas, pecioladas, ovadas, subagudas, de tamanho, forma e consistência variáveis, coriáceas, peninervadas e luzidias; flores numerosas, axilares, esverdeado-amareladas, pequenas, aromáticas, bracteadas, reunidas em racimos ramificados e dispostos em panículas terminais; fruto baga ovóide de 2 cm, roxo-escura, contendo uma semente, cujo embrião é um depósito de óleo essenciais. A partir dos seus ramos, extrai-se a casca, que serve tanto para especiarias como para a fabricação de cânfora sólida. Além de ser aromática e condimentar, ela ainda é medicinal, tônica, estimulante, carminativa e antiespasmódica. A madeira é leve, belíssima por suas caprichosas nodosidades e recebe bem o verniz, sendo usada para marcenaria de luxo e bengalas.

Note 1 and 2: It is native of Sri Lanka, and it is currently cultivated in the states of Pará, Bahia and Rio de Janeiro. It reaches up to 7 m of height and 40 cm of diameter; the bark is thick, pale and glabrous; the leaves are simple, opposite, petiolated, ovate, subacute, coriaceous, penninerved and sparkling, with variable size, shape and consistency; the flowers are numerous, axillary, greenish-yellowish, small, aromatic and bracteates, they are gathered in ramified racemes and disposed in terminal panicles. The fruit is a 2 cm berry, which is ovoid and dark-purple; it contains a single seed, whose embryo is full of essencial oils. From the branches, it is possible to extract the bark, which can be used as a spice or as solid camphor. Aside from being aromatic and condimental, it is medicinal, tonic, stimulating, carminative and antispasmodic. The wood is light, it receives quite well the varnish and it is magnificent because of its capricious nodosities; it is used in luxurious carpentry works and for the manufacturing of canes
