Planta forrageira da família Poaceae, do gênero Cenchrus, das espécies C. viridis, C. echinatus, C.mysuroides, C. tribuloides e C. ciliares, sendo essa última a mais comum.
Nota 1 e 2: Ela é originária da África (Tanganica e Quênia). Ele forma touceiras, com rizoma curto, muito duro, e raízes compridas e numerosas. Os colmos alcançan até 1.5 m de altura e são ramificados. As fohas apresentam cor verde-cinza, com os bordos serreados, e as inflorescências em racemos de 7 a 8 cm de comprimento, com as cerdas verdes na base e purpúreas na extremidade. Os solos de textura leve são os mais apropriaodos, porém ele se desenvolve satisfatoriamente em solos argilosos de boa drenagem. A propagação é feita por sementes.

The stalks reach up to 1.5 m of height and they are ramified. The leaves have a green-grey colouration and serrate edges; the inflorescences are disposed in racemes of 7-8 cm of length, with green bristles in the basis and purplish ones in the extremity. The soils that have a light texture are the more appropriate, however, it can satisfactorily grow in clayey soils with a good drainage. The propagation can be done via seeds.
