Planta herbacea da família Poaceae, do gênero Cenchrus, da espécie Cenchrus equinatus L.
Nota 1 e 2: Ele é encontrado no Sul, Centro-sul, no Nordeste e parte do Centro-Oeste do Brasil, invadindo lavouras anuais e perenes. Atinge até 60cm de altura, ereta ou quase, com caule dotado de nós e internódios pigmentados; folhas providas de bainha ligulada e peluda, porém de superfície praticamente lisa e lamina de 10 a 30 cm com pubescêncua na zona basal superior; inflorescência em racimos portadores de espiguetas com brácteas espinosas.

Note 1 and 2: It is found in the south, south central, northeast and part of central-west region of Brazil, invading perennial and annual croppings. It reaches up to 60 cm of height, erect or almost, with a strm equipped with pigmented nodes and internodes; the leaves have a ligulate and hairy sheath, however, the superficie is virtually smooth, a 10-30 cm lamina and a pubescence in the superior basal zone; the inflorescence is gathered in racemes that carry spikelets with thorny bracts. Vulgarization: spiny sandbur, southern sandspur, Mossman River grass.
