Planta forrageira da família Poaceae, da espécie Panicum maximum Jacq. das variedades Green panic, Gatton panic, Tobiatã, Centenário, Centauro, Vencedor, Tanzania, Mombaça, Sempre verde.
Nota 1 e 2: Ele é originário da África. Ele é perene, de touceiras densas, rizomas grossos, e colmos eretos e duros, com folhas em todo o seu comprimento, ele atinge até 4 m de altura e possui, em sua base, 4 a 6 nós curtos. As folhas possuem coloração verde-azulado-clara, possuem lamina linear pontiaguda e face dorsal áspera, bordos duros e serrilhados, com a lígula grande e pubescente. A inflorescência é uma panícula aberta, de forma cônica de 10 a 40 cm de comprimento, apresentando ramos secundários, de onde saem as raques com as espiguetas, associadas em pares. A inferior é a flor masculina ou neutra, e a superior, a hermafrodita, fértil, com 3 anteras. Forma sementes apomiticas que reproduzem exatamente as plantas-mãe, pode também ocorrer polinização cruzada. A produção de matéria seca/hectare/ ano varia entre 8 e 13 toneladas.

Note 1 and 2: It is native of Africa; it is perennial and it has dense tussocks, thick rhizomes, and tough and erect stalks, it has leaves all over its length, and it reaches up to 4m of height. It possesses, in its basis, between 4 and 6 short nodes. The leaves have a green-blueish-light colouration, the lamina is linear and pointed, and the bottom surface is rough, the leaf edge is is thich and serrated, the ligula is large and pubescent. The inflorescence is an openened and cone-shaped panicle, with between 10 and 40 cm of length, it also presents secondary branches, from where the raquis with the spikelets, in pairs, gets out; the inferior is the neutral or masculine flower, and the superior, the hermaphrodite, fertile, with 3 anthers. The plants provides aphomictic seeds, which reprocude exactly their mother-plant, but it can also occur outcrossing. The dry matter productivity varies between 8 and 13 ton/ha/year.
