CAPIM-KIKUYO
Planta da família Poaceae, da espécie Pennisetum clandestinum Hochst.
Nota 1 e 2: Ele é originário do leste da África. No Brasil, oocorre nos estados do Centro e do Sul pois prefere o clima subtropical úmido. É própria de altitude superior a 1500 m e exige solos com alto teor de matéria orgânica. É perene, de altura baixa (40-60 cm), e forma densos gramados de folhas estreitas e longas, e colmos enraizados de mais de 2m, com reprodução exclusiva por rizomas e estolões, dificilmente floresce ou frutifica. É indicada para a formação de piquetes gramados, utilizados na criação de suínos, ou de bezerros de raças leiteiras.

Note 1 and 2: It is native of the east of Africa, in Brazil it occurs in the states of the Centre and of the South because it prefers the humid subtropical climate. It is appropriate for altitudes higher than 1500m and it demands soils rich in organic matter. It is perennial, with low height (40-60 cm), it forms dense lawns of long and narrow leaves, and rooted stalks with more than 2 m. The reproduction occurs exclusively by rhizomes or stolons, it hardly ever flourishes or fruit. It is appropriate for the formation of pickets with lawn, used in the pigs breeding or the milk calves breeding.
