Planta forrageira da família Poaceae, da espécie Brachiaria brizantha (Hochst. Ex. A. Rich) Stapf cv. Marandu.
Nota 1 e 2: É originário da África tropical, onde ocorre em região vulcânica de solos férteis e regime pluvial acima de 800 mm anuais. É robusto, de porte cespitoso, prostrada quando novo, crescendo até 1,5-2,5 m de altura. Tem laminas foliares largas e longas, com pubescências na face inferior. Tem bom comportamento na seca, é tolerante ao frio e rebrota bem após a passagem do fogo, seu crescimento é mais acentuado durante a estação quente e úmida. Suas sementes são um pouco maiores que as das espécies do mesmo gênero. A formação das pastagens deve ser feita no período das águas.

Note 1 and 2: It is native of Tropical Africa, where it occurs in a volcanic region, with fertile soils and an annual rainfall index superior to 800 mm. It is tough, with a cespitose shape, prostrated when young, reaching 1.5-2.5 of height. It has large and long foliar laminas, with a pubescence in the inferior surface. It is resistant to drought and to cold, it regrowths quite fast after a fire. Its growth is more accentuated during the hot and humid station. Its seeds are slightly bigger than the ones produced by the plants of the same genus. The pasture has to be formed during the rainfall period.
