Árvore da família Ebenaceae, da espécie Diospyros virginiana L. (D. concolor Moench.).
Nota 2: Ela pode atingir mais de 15 m de altura, possui copa globosa e esparramada, muitas vezes de ramagem pêndula; folhas ovadas ou elípticas, acuminadas, face superior brilhante e a inferior pubescente; flores verde-amarelas. Fruto globoso ou obovado; parecido com uma ameixa, com o cálice engrandecido na base, 2.5-5 cm de diâmetro, de coloração alaranjado-clara, variando de tamanho, cor e sabor, comestível quando bem maduro, pois antes é adstringente.

Note 2: It can reach more than 15 m of height, it has a globose and splayed canopy, often with reciprocating foliage; the leaves are ovate or elliptic, acuminate, with a shining superior surface and a pubescent inferior one; the flowers are green-yellow. The fruit is globose or obovate, similar to a prune, with a magnified calyx in its basis. The fruit has 2.5-5 cm of diameter and a light orangish colouration; it varies in shape, colour and flavor; it is edible when very ripe, and very astringent before it. Vulgarization: common persimmon, eastern persimmon.
