CARAMBOLA
Árvore da família Oxalidaceae, da espécie Averrhoa carambola L. (Prunum stellatum Rumph.).
Nota 1 e 2: Ela é originária das Moluscas, ela foi introduzida na Índia, e em seguida, na Guiana Francesa e no Brasil. Possui folhas compostas, imparipenadas, de folíolos pequenos e longopeciolados, que são caducos e sensíveis ao toque, e que formam uma copa densa. As flores são pequenas, de coloração variando do rosa-desmaiado ao roxo-purpura, elas estão dispostas em racimos pequenos e axilares. As folhas caem em agosto, nos períodos de estiagem, e reaparecem em outubro. O fruto é uma baga oval, oblonga, com cinco saliências angulares ou arestas longitudinais, carnosa, fragrante, de sabor acíduo agradável e refrescante; a polpa é transparente ou translúcida; o fruto possui formatos e colorações variáveis. Os frutos são consumidos in natura ou usados em geleias, sucos, sorvetes e compotas. As flores podem ser usadas em saladas. A propagação pode ser feita por sementes, alporquia ou enxertia.

Note 1 and 2: It is native of the Maluku Islands, it was introduced in India, and, afterwards, in French Guiana and Brazil. It has composed leaves, imparipinnate, with small and longpetiolated leaflets, which are deciduous, sensible to touch and form a dense canopy. The flowers are small and their colouration range from the pale-rose to purplish, they are disposed in small and axillary racemes. The leaves fall in august, during the drought period, and reappear in October. The fruit is an oval and oblong berry, which presents five angular protrusions or longitudinal edges, it is fleshy and fragrant, it has a pleasant and refreshing acid flavor; the pulp is transparent or translucent; the fruit has variable sizes and colourations. The fruit is consumed in natura or used in jams, juices, ice cream or compotes. The flowers can be used in salads. The propagation is done trhough seeds or through layering and grafting.
