Planta da família Compositae, da espécie Scolymus hispanicus L.
Nota 2: Ele se desenvolve bem em climas frescos e temperados. Prefere solos leves, permeáveis, profundos, ricos em matéria orgânica e é excelente para aproveitar o efeito da ação residual de adubações utilizadas para outras espécies hortícolas mais exigentes. A colheita se dá 6 meses após o plantio, as folhas são retiradas e as raízes, lavadas; estas são consumidas cozidas ou fritas. As plantas escolhidas para produção de sementes, e que para tanto, florescem e frutificam, possuem um sistema radicular muito fibroso, e portanto, não são consumidas.

Note 2: It grows well in cool and temperate weathers. It prefers light, permeable, deep and rich in organic matter soils and it is excellent to benefit from the residual of the fertilizing of more demanding crops. The harvest occurs 6 months after the plantation; the leaves are removed and the roots are washed to be posteriorly consumed (fried or cooked). The plants that are chosen to produce seeds, and to do so, flourish and bear fruit, have a very fibrous radicular system, therefore, they are not consumed.
