Árvore da família Celastraceae, da espécie Maytenus obtusifolia M.
Nota 1 e 2: Ela ocorre do Piauí ao Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais e Goiás. Ela atinge até 33 m de altura e 1 m de diâmetro. Possui folhas cinzento-pecioladas, ovadas, com até 12 cm de comprimento x 12 cm de largura, são crasso-coriáceas e com 6-10 nervuras laterais; inflorescência em racimos compostos, multifloros e paniculados; flores castanhas; fruto cápsula ovoide, bilocular e bivalve; sementes 1-2 envoltas em arilo branco e sucoso. Ela fornece madeira de alburno branco ou cinzento e cerne rosa-pálido ou castanho-rosado, dura, muito forte, porém macia, elástica e fácil de trabalhar; a madeira é apropriada para construção civil, obras em lugares secos e torno; entretanto tem o defeito de empenar quando desdobrada em tabuado.

Note 1 and 2: It occurs from Piaui state until Rio de Janeiro state, Minas Gerais and Goiás states. It reaches up to 33 m of height and 1 m of diameter. It has grey-petiolated and ovate leaves, which reach up to 12 cm of length x 12 cm of width; they are crass-coriaceous with 6-10 lateral ribs. The inflorescence is disposed in composed, multiflower and paniculate racemes. The flowers are brown; the fruit is an ovoid, bilocular and bivalve capsule, with 1-2 seeds surrounded by a white and juicy aril. The tree provides a wood with a white or grizzly laburnum and pale-rose heartwood, it is hard, very strong, and however it is soft, elastic and easy to work with. The wood is appropriate for construction industry, works in dry places and lathe. However, it commonly warps when unfolded in clapboard.
