PALMEIRA-PALMIRA
Planta anã da família Palmae, da espécie Borassus flabellifer L. (B. flabelliforms Murr.).
Nota 1 e 2: É nativa da Índia e do Sri Lanka (ex-Ceilão) introduzida nas partes tropicais do Brasil no começo do século XX. Há maior número de Borassus esparramadas no mundo do que qualquer outro gênero de Palmae. A espécie é vastamente cultivada na Birmânia, Índia, Sri Lanka, Tailândia e Camboja. Trata-se de palmeira volumosa, de folhas como ventarolas e cultivada no mundo todo onde vigem condições climáticas favoráveis. Os frutos têm quase sempre o tamanho de coco e contêm três sementes encastoadas nas fibras, de sorte que são dificilmente retiradas.

Note 1 and 2: It is from India and Sri Lanka (ex-Ceylon) cultivated in tropical areas of Brazil in the beginning of 20th century. There are more of this species around the world than in any other kind of Palmae. This species is broadly cultivated in Burma, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Cambodia. It refers to a thick palm tree with leaves like blowers and cultivated in worldwide where favorable climatic conditions predominate. The fruits have almost always the size of coconut and contain three seed slotted in their fibers, therefore these seeds are difficulty taken off.
