Árvore da família Caryocaraceae, da espécie Caryocar barbinerve Miq.
Nota 1 e 2: É originária da Bahia. É muito grande e grossa, atingindo 30 m de altura e 2 m e até mais de diâmetro, de casca pardo-avermelhada, folhas trifoliadas, opostas e decussadas (cruzadas em ângulo reto). Folíolos oblongo-acuminados, crenados nas margens, membranáceos. Flores em racemos terminais, com flores reunidas nas pontas. Fruto drupa, de endocarpo lenhoso, negro, provido de agulhas grossas, duras, aguçadas, em cujo interior há uma semente grande, comestível. O mesocarpo, envolvendo tais acúleos, é carnoso e gorduroso, de difícil aproveitamento pela quase impossibilidade de colher os frutos na grande mata pluvial.

Note 1 and 2: It is from Bahia. It is very big and thick, reaching up 30 m high and 2 m or more of diameter, with a reddish-brown, trifoliate leaves, opposite and X-shaped ones (crossed in right angle).Oblong-acute leaflets, with crenate margins, membranaceus. Flowers in terminal bunches, with flowers clustered in the edges. Drupe fruit, woody and black endocarp, with thick, tough and sharp spikes, whose inner part there is a big and edible seed. The mesocarp, evolving these spikes, is fleshy and fatty, and difficult one to be used due to the impossibility of harvesting the fruits in a big rain forest.
