Árvore da família Legumnosae-Cesalpinioideae, da espécie Ceratonia siliqua L. (C. coriaceae Salisb.; C. inermis Stokes).
Nota 1 e 2: Originária do Mediterrâneo, Ásia Menor e Trípoli. Difundida graças às suas grandes vagens, ricas em proteínas e açúcar, que consagram a espécie como importante recurso forrageiro, além de fornecer matéria-prima para fabrico de xaropes e bebidas fermentadas.

Note 1 and 2: It is originated from the Mediterranean, Small Asia and Tripoli. It was widespread due to its big beans very rich in proteins and sugar.
