Planta daninha da família Asclepiadaceae, do gênero Calotropis da espécie C. procera (Ait.) R.Br.
Nota 1 e 2: Nativa da África tropical e da Índia, tendo encontrado condições favoráveis ao desenvolvimento no Nordeste brasileiro. Perene, lactescente, de 2-4 m de altura. Além de ser cultivada como ornamental, é reputada medicinal pelo homem do campo (casca = tônica e estimulante), (látex das folhas = vermífugo, odontálgico), (folhas cozidas = anti-reumáticas e calmantes), (folhas secas = aliviam a tosse).
