Nota 2: Muito frequente em culturas anuais, em locais onde o revolvimento do solo é intenso em função do cultivo. Ela é altamente competitiva e produz grande quantidade de sementes. Ela é muito frequente nas áreas agrícolas e pode ser usada como verdura de mesa. Ela é herbácea, monóica, ereta ou subprostrada, possui um caule glabro, de coloração esverdeada ou fortemente pigmentada de antocianina, assim como as raízes. As flores estão agrupadas em glomérulos terminais ou axilares normalmente concrescidas, o conjunto toma um aspecto piciforme. A flor é protegida por uma 1 ou 2 brácteas e com 3-5 tépalas persistentes; a flor masculina tem 3-5 estames livres e a flor feminina possui um ovário unilocular e uniovulado, com 1-3 estiletes e 1-3 estigmas.

It is frequent in agricultural areas and it can be used as table vegetable. It is herbaceous, monoic, erect ou subprostrated, it has a glabrous stem with a greenish colouration or strongly pigmented by anthocyanin, and so do the roots. The flowers are gathered in terminal glomeruli, normally they are concrescent, and the set has a piciforme aspect. The flower is protected by 1 or 2 bracts and with 3-5 persistent tepals. The masculine flower has 3-5 free stamens and the feminine flower has a unilocular and uniovulate ovary, with 1-3 styles and 1-3 stigmas. Vulgarization: redroot pigweed, red-rooted pigweed, common amaranth, pigweed amaranth, common tumbleweed.
