Nome vulgar que designa plantas de diversas famílias botânicas, assim como nomes de pratos típicos da Amazônia e do Nordeste. As plantas comestíveis são da família Amaranthaceae, do gênero Amaranthus, das espécies A. deflexus L., A.dubius Mart., A. quitensis H.B.K., A. reflexus L. e A. tristis L.
Nota 2: Possuem aplicação medicinal, são desobstruentes e combatem males hepáticos.
