Nome comum dado a várias plantas daninhas da família Amaranthaceae, do gênero Amaranthus, das espécies Amaranthus hybridus L., Amaranthus lividus L., Amaranthus retroflexus L., Amaranthus spinosus L. e Amaranthus viridis L.
Nota 2: São herbáceas, não muito suculentas, de 30-180 cm de altura; são encontradas principalmente em solos cultivados úmidos e férteis, onde infestam várias culturas anuais e perenes. Quando jovens e tenras, são consumidas na forma de saladas pelas populações rurais, empregadas na alimentação de animais e na medicina caseira.

Note 2: They are herbaceous, not very sweety, with 30-180 cm of height; they are mainly found in humid and fertile cultivated soils, where they invade many annual and perennial crops. When they are young and tender, these plants are consumed as salads by the rural population, employed in animal feeding and in home medicine.
