CARURU-BRAVO
Erva da família Phytolaccaceae, da espécie Phytolacca americana L. (P. decandra L., P. vulgaris Dill.).
Nota 1 e 2: Ela é originária dos Estados Unidos e foi introduzida no Brasil no século XIX, onde se aclimatou. Ela é perene, possui caule alto e retilíneo. Ela é ramosa e compõe touceiras. Possui flores pequenas dispostas em racemos eretos, a princípio branco-esverdeadas, que depois se tornam púrpuras. O fruto é uma baga carnosa e polposa, de gosto adocicado enjoativo, um tanto acre, contendo uma semente. Tais bagas fornecem um corante, usado em vinhos, doces e tecidos. A espécie é medicinal, sua raiz é purgativa e até vomitiva.

It has small flowers disposed in erect racemes, first they are white-greenish, becoming purple afterwards. is a pulpy and fleshy berry, which has a sweetish taste, a little acrid, and contains a single seed. These berries provide a dye, which is used in wines, candies and tissues. The species is medical; its root is purgative and even vomitory.
