CARVALHO-AMERICANO
Árvore da família Fagaceae, da espécie Quercus palustris Muench.
Nota 1 e 2: É originária dos Estados Unidos, foi introduzida no Brasil nos estados do Sul, onde é pouco cultivada. Possui porte mediano; folhas longo-pecioladas, elípticas ou oblongas, agudas ou obtusas na base, profundamente lobadas, pubescentes enquanto jovens; flores formando amentos; fruto séssil do tipo aquênio, grande, apresentando envoltório acrescente. Do seu tronco, extrai-se madeira castanho-clara, resistente, durável, muito usada na construção civil. Ela é ornamental e possui rápido crescimento.

Note 1 and 2: It is native of United States and it was introduced in the South region of Brazil, where it is little cultivated. It is a medium-sized tree; the leaves are petiolated, elliptic or oblong, acute or obtuse in the basis, deeply lobate and pubescent when young; the flowers form an ament; the fruit is a big and sessile achene, which presents a growing envelope. From its trunl, it is possible to extract a light-brown wood, which is resistant, durable and very used in construction. The tree is ornamental and it has a fast growth.
