Árvore da família Proteaceae, da espécie Rhopala (Roupala) brasiliensis Kl.
Nota 1 e 2: Ocorre da Bahia até Santa Catarina. Ela atinge até 32 m de altura e 1m de diâmetro (geralmente muito menor, às vezes simples arbusto); ramos e racimos densamente ferruginosos enquanto jovens, depois glabros e pálidos; folhas alternas grandes, longopecioladas, ovadas, obtusas, de até 16 cm de comprimento e 85 mm de largura, denteadas, coriáceas, glabras, opacas e tomentosas na face inferior; flores branco-amareladas, curtopediceladas, dispostas em amentos axilares; fruto folículo elíptico-oblongo. Fornece madeira vermelho-clara com veias brancacentas, forte, pesada, dura, com fibras entrecruzadas, difícil de trabalhar, própria para construção civil e naval, peças de resistência, vigamentos, marcenaria, carpintaria, tabuados, costados de navios, canoas.

Note 1 and 2: It occurs from Bahia state until Santa Catarina state. It reaches up to 32 m of height and 1m of diameter (generally, it is much shorter, sometimes simple shrubs); the branches and the racemes are densely ferruginous when young, and after, glabrous and pale. The leaves are alternate, big, long-petiolated, ovate, obtuse, with until 16 cm of length and 85 mm of width, toothed, coriaceous, glabrous, opaque and tomentose in the inferior surface; the flowers are white-yellowish, shortpedicelated, disposed in axillary catkins. The fruit is an oblong-elliptic follicle. It provides a light-red wood, which has whitish veins; it is strong, heavy, and thick, intercrossed fibers, hard to work with, suitable for construction and shipbuilding, resistance parts, joists, carpentry, planks, ship broadsides and canoes.
