Árvore da família Apocynaceae, da espécie Rauwolfia sellowii M. Arg.
Nota 1 e 2: Ocorre em Minas Gerais e em São Paulo. Ela é heliófta, seletiva, higrófita, característica de solos férteis e úmidos da floresta semidecídua de altitudes superiores a 400 m. Encontra-se tanto no interior da floresta primária densa, como em formações abertas secundárias. Possui 15-25 m de altura, tronco e ramos de aspecto suculento, de 30-50 cm de diâmetro. As folhas são simples e membranáceas, de 15-20 cm de comprimento. Floresce de setembro a novembro e os frutos amadurecem de janeiro a março. Ela fornece madeira leve, mole, pouco compacta, fácil de trabalhar, de baixa durabilidade natural, e empregada apenas para forros, caixotaria, brinquedos e artefatos leves. A árvore é exuberante e frondosa, proporcionando uma ótima sombra e sendo utilizada no paisagismo, em geral. Os ramos quebram facilmente pela ação eólica. Produz anualmente grande quantidade de frutos suculentos, avidamente consumidos por várias espécies de pássaros. A espécie é recomendada para vegetação de áreas degradadas de preservação permanente.

Note 1 and 2: It occurs in states of Minas Gerais and São Paulo. It is heliophytic, selective, hygrophilic, typical of fertile and humid soils of the semideciduous forest, found in altitudes superior than 400m. It is found inside the primary and dense forest and in open secondary formations. It has 15-25 m of height, the trunk and the branches have a succulent aspect, with 30-50 cm of diameter. The leaves are simple and membranaceous, with 15-20 cm of length. It flourishes between setember and November and the fruits ripen between January and March. It provides a light, loose and little compact wood, which is easy to work with and possesses a low natural durability. It is employed only in linings, boxes, toys and light artifacts. The tree is exuberant and leafy, providing a good shadow and being generally used in landscaping. The branches easily break because of the wind. It annually produces a large amount of sweety fruits, greedily consumed by many species of birds. The species is suitable for the vegetation of degraded areas of permanet preservation.
