Árvore da família Lecythidaceae, da espécie Couropita guianensis Aubl. (Lecythis bracteata Willd.; Pekea couropita Juss.; Couropita surinamensis Mart.).
Nota 1 e 2: Ela é nativa da Amazônia e das Guianas, ocorrendo também na América Central; habita nos igapós e margens inundáveis de cursos d’água. Ela é alta e possui volumoso fuste. Possui folhas simples, alternas, lanceolado-obovadas, ápice obtuso, página superior amarelada e pouco lustrosa. A inflorescência é longa, terminal nos ramos, mas aparecem também no tronco (caulifloria); as flores são branco-róseas, grandes, aromáticas, de 6 pétalas longas, lindas, de cheiro suave. A fruto é grande, globoso, de polpa azulada, desagradalvelmente comestíveis; as sementes são comestíveis (apenas para animais).

It is tall and it has a volumous shaft. Its leaves are simple, alternate, and lanceolate-obovate, with an obtuse apex and yellowish and slightly glossy superior surface. The inflorescence is long, terminal in the branches, but it also appears in the trunk (cauliflory); the flowers are white-rosy, large, and aromatic, with six long and beautiful petals, which have a soft odour. The fruit is large and globose, with a bluish pulp, disagreeably edible; the seeds are also edible (only for animals).
