CASTANHA-DO-MARANHÃO
Nome popular dado a várias espécies da família Bombacaceae, do gênero Bombax, das espécies B. aquaticum (Aubl.) Schum (Pachira aquatica Aubl., P. grandiflora Tussac.), e B. insigne (Sav.) Schum (Pachira insignus Sav.).
Nota 1 e 2: A primeira se desenvolve em lugares úmidos, em terras férteis e não-encharcadas, atingindo 20 m de altura. A castanha das duas espécies tem gosto agradável (que lembra o das amêndoas) são ricas em óleo e são preferencialmente consumidas cozidas ou assadas. Eram usadas para adulterar o cacau na América Central.

Note 1 and 2: The first grows in humid places, in fertile and non-flooded lands, reaching up to 20 m of height. The chestnut of the two species has a pleasant taste (that reminds the taste the almonds), they are full of oil and they are preferably consumed cooked or roasted. They used to be employed in the adulteration of the cocoa in Central America.
