Cacto da família Cactaceae da espécie Cephalocereus gounellei (Weber) Britt. & Rose (Cereus gounellei K. Schum.; Cereus setosus Guerke; Pilocereus gounellei Weber; Pilocereus setosus Guerke).
Nota 1 e 2: Tem incidência na caatinga do nordeste brasileiro, é característica da flora xerófita deste bioma. Possui tronco ereto até 3 m de altura com ramos curvados paralelamente para o solo; ramifica-se formando moitas intransponíveis; auréolas cinzentas armadas de espinhos robustos. As flores são grandes, brancas, de hábito noturno e tubulosas. O fruto é globoso, achatado nas extremidades e avermelhado; possui polpa purpúrea, sementes pretas e luzidias, pequenas. Forma típica com espinhos curtos, com mais quatro espécies que se diferenciam pela disposição, forma e tamanho dos espinhos.

Note 1 and 2: It is from Caatinga, a particularly dry region in the northeast of Brazil, and it is one of the main xerophyte species of this particular biome. It has straight trunk to 3 meters high with curved parallel branches to the ground, which creates unsurmountable bushes; grey areoles with strong thorns; white, large, nocturnal and tubular flowers. It has reddish and globular fruits, which are also flattened at the edges; purplish pulp, bright, black and small seeds. Its regular shape is with short thorns but with four more species that are distinguished by the thorn shape, disposition and size.
