Objective
Provide students, primarily of the Master’s course, through theoretical/practical lessons a comprehensive overview of the main causal agents of plants disease groups with emphasis on biological aspects relevant to understanding the disease process and its control.

Content
Classification systems of living beings. The domain Bacteria and its phytopathogenic agents: general characteristics, classification and clinical symptoms of the main diseases. Basic methods in bacteriology. Fungi as causal agents of disease. Fungi of the Kingdom Stramenopila and Protozoa. True fungi: ascomycetes, basidiomycetes, zygomycetes and anamorphic fungi. Virus: nature of the viral particle. Virus taxonomy. Clinical symptoms of viral diseases. Basic methods in virology. Nematodes: biology, morphology and classification. Main genera of phytonematodes and diseases that they cause. Basic methods in Phytonematology. Other causative agents of disease. Abiotic diseases.
