Objective
Introduce the concept and indicators of sustainable development and familiarize the students with sustainability assessment tools.

Content
Social and economic impacts derived from the production of bioenergy. Socio-economic indicators. Impacts on micro and macroeconomics. Generation of jobs. Models of production. New businesses derived from bioenergy. Expansion of production and impacts. Relationship of energy production with other rural economic activities or not. Food versus Bioenergy. Land use planning. Direct and indirect impacts of land use. International trade and protectionism. Biological Indicators for Assessment of Soil, Water and Air Impacts; Physical-Chemical Sensors for Measurement of Soil, Water and Air Impacts; Methods of Analysis for Biofuel Certification and Analytical Methods for Biodiversity Impact Assessment.
