Árvore da família Celastraceae, da espécie Maytenus boaria.
Nota 1 e 2: Ela é encontrada no Rio de janeiro (até 2.200 m de altitute, sobre o Itatiaia) e no Rio Grande do Sul; Chega até 12 m de altura e pequeno diâmetro; Casca cinzento-avermelhada, pouco rugosa e fendida, fina; Fornece madeira dura, bastante pesada, compacta, elástica, geralmente branco-acinzentada ou amarela, às vezes com veias vermelhas e oliváceas, própria para obras de torno e carpintaria, mas tem o inconveniente de torcer e rachar durante a secagem; As folhas são de alto valor forrageiro e o seu decocto é muito reputado contra as febres palustres; Das sementes extrai-se óleo comestível.

Note 1 and 2: It is found in Rio de Janeiro (until 2,200 m of height, above the Itatiaia) and in Rio Grande do Sul states; It ca reach up to 12 m high and has a small diameter; It has a gray-red, wrinkled, cleft and thin bark; It supplies a hard, heavy, compact, elastic and generally white-grey or yellow, sometimes with red and olive-green veins wood, proper for lathe and carpentrywork, but it has the inconvenient of twisting and slipting when drying; Its leaves have great value as fodder and its decoction is well known against the yellow fever; From its seeds can be extracted an edible oil.
