Objective
(1) literature survey for taxonomic purposes, (2) methods of collecting and preserving insects, (3) notion of insect evolution, (4) classification ane phylogeny of Insecta, emphasizing on orders of agricultural importance and (5) notion of zoological nomenclature.
Content
Theoretical and practical lectures. Equipment and methods of collecting, mounting and preserving of insects. Origin and evolution of insects. History of the classification. Taxonomic categories. Concept of species. Zoological nomenclature. Class Insecta. Insecta classification with emphasis on orders: Odonata, Orthoptera, Dermaptera, Isoptera, Thysanoptera, Hemiptera, Neuroptera, Lepidoptera, Diptera, Coleoptera, and Hymenoptera. Classification of families of those orders.
